What Do Different Engine Types Mean to You?
If you’ve been looking at cars for yourself and your family you’ve probably seen the different engine types being offered. But if you’re like a lot of people you don’t really know what those different engine types mean and that’s all right. We’re here to help you out a little and help you make sure that you’re getting the engine that you need for your vehicle, and not spending a lot of money on something that’s more power than you need, because that’s the most important thing about the engine, the power.
The most common engines you’re going to see in a vehicle are either Inline-4, V-6 or V-8. The Inline engine has four cylinders that are all in one row, making a line. The V-6 or V-8 engines have cylinders on two sides making a “V” shape. The V-6 has three on each side and the V-8 has four on each side. These engines are going to give you slightly different power and, in general, the more cylinders the vehicle has the more power you’re going to get. That power goes to a lot of things though. It’s not just about how fast the car will get moving but also about how much it can tow.
Less common engine types include the Inline-3, Boxer-4 and 6, Inline-5 and Inline-6. These are used primarily by one or two manufacturers each. Such as the Inline-3 that Mitsubishi uses for their smaller vehicles or the Inline-5 used by Volvo. These are more specialized engine types with different cylinder methods that are pretty similar to what you’d expect based on what we just discussed, Inline means that the cylinders make a line and Boxer means that they make a box. The shape of the cylinders means that the engine is a different size with Inline cylinders creating a larger engine and “V” cylinders making a shorter one.
An Inline engine is also going to have more balance, which means less repairs needed, and it’s going to be a whole lot easier to make, which means you’re going to spend less for it. A “V” or other shaped engine is going to give you more power because it’s going to decrease the size of the engine bay and allow for more front wheel drive action. For those interested in more sporty cars this is definitely a benefit and a lot of people like this option, preferring it for even traditional cars, which is why more and more vehicles offer this engine style now.
No matter which type of engine you’re interested in, you’ll be able to get a decent amount of power. All you have to do is check for the information you need on a no credit bad credit car loans and you’ll be off to the races when it comes to picking out your vehicle.
